The highly anticipated new hybrid model from Swedish hypercar builder Koenigsegg is has officially debuted in Geneva. With all the teasers that have come out we did some digging around the corporate site and found that a recent update to the “Story” page for the company founder – Christian von Koenigsegg – seems to have slipped a small detail about this new model. The update talks about the innovations that Christian has made in regards to door mechanisms and then adds that “In the latest Regera model, the door system is also fully automated with soft close function, making it truly spectacular.”

According to the company “The Regera will be handcrafted in only 80 examples” so get out your checkbooks now folks.  The Regera also introduces Constellation DRL whic means they have “scattered the LED´s, which make up the DRL, around the lamp cluster, giving the effect of star constellations on a night sky made up of polished carbon fiber.” But more imprtantly “The ICE of the Regera follows the path of its siblings, based on the proven and extremely reliable Koenigsegg drysumped twin turbo, DOHC, 5.0 liter V8. The difference to the Agera engine is that, given the electric propulsion of the Direct Drive system, we did not have to go as extreme on ICE power, as the combined output is way over 1500 Hp and over 2000 Nm torque, anyway. Given this we could install even smaller, faster spooling turbos on the Regera, further enhancing the ICE drivability and response.”

I heard that Bugatti were testing a new 1500 HP car, however for me Bugatti’s downfall has been the weight of the car. If the Koenigsegg Regera can pack 1500 HP whilst keeping the car light then it may be a serious contender for the fastest car.
